Old Portraits (Mar. 21)
What to expect
Old Portraits is an itinerant photography project that revives the ancient tintype technique to create black-and-white portraits using silver salts. Guided by Maria (photographer) and Felisia (curator), “Old Portraits” offers a deeper reflection on the role of photography in shaping both collective and individual memory, and invites participants to immerse themselves in a sensory experience of timeless craftsmanship. Their work can be discovered on their Instagram page, @fotografiaminuteraitinerante, where they share the essence of their craft and the timeless beauty of tintype photography.
Participants will immerse themselves in late 19th-century photography, posing for a handcrafted tintype portrait. Guided by an artist photographer and a curator overseeing the darkroom process, they will witness their image come to life on a 10x15 silver print. The final portrait, delivered in a fine paper envelope or mounted in a passepartout, will be a unique, signed, and numbered artwork.
This experience offers a deeper understanding of analog photography, its craftsmanship, and its role in preserving memory.
