What to expect

The introductory photography course stands out from other courses due to its emphasis on educating the gaze and one's emotions, in addition to technical knowledge. In the sessions, the concept of storytelling will be explored, with a focus on image mapping, words, memories, dreams, desires, and atmospheres. Each participant will ask themselves, "What do I want to tell, why, and with which tools?" Every participant will have their own blank canvas, immersing themselves in their emotional structure, overcoming the fear in front of it. Photography as their own means of expression. The historic center of the city of Pistoia will frame their vision and their story to tell. Starting from a theme chosen by the artist/teacher, the participant will create a story/reportage.

Who is it for? For those approaching photography for the first time, those wishing to deepen their knowledge, those who need to fill educational gaps, and those passionate who want to become more passionate. In the streets, in the 'beloved corners,' studying paths and light. Walking in small groups in a harmonious, synchronized way, without any pressure to create images, respecting the rhythm, presence, gaze, and emotions.

Some words about Maria Di Pietro

The course will be taught by Maria Di Pietro, an Italian artist who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples with a thesis in Photography supervised by art historian and critic Ennery Taramelli. Her vocation is deeply rooted in her passionate approach to all forms of visual storytelling, which, over time, took shape through documenting with a camera. Her writings are acrobatic, balancing on a fine line between a thirst for research in the theater of life and photojournalism, which has allowed her to enter the professional circuit, publishing in national and international magazines. She has held various exhibitions and published several reportages, strengthening her path with important meetings, such as with poet Alda Merini. She constantly collaborates to create stories that highlight inequalities and the power of poetry. In 2022, she was included in the book Fotografia Ribelli among the 33 female photographers who revolutionized photography. Among her recent projects, deeply connected to her life philosophy, she started a journey in Paris focused on photography and travel, with the figure of the female flâneuse at its center.
