Land-based Zamburiñas Tour (Feb. 21)
Discover the Land-based Zamburiñas Tour for an immersive maritime adventure without leaving the shore. Begin with a fascinating introduction to artisanal fishing and ecological aquaculture in Estepona. Guided by an experienced maritime expert, you’ll delve into the history and daily life of local fishermen, gaining insights into the rich tradition of artisanal fishing in the region.
The journey continues with a guided visit to Estepona’s fishing port, where you’ll explore the most emblematic landmarks of the artisanal fishing industry. Witness the unloading of fresh fish and experience the dynamic fish auction at the Lonja. Learn about the most important seafood species from our coast, their best seasons, and engage with local fishermen and fisherwomen to understand the intricacies of their craft. You’ll also connect with other artisanal trades, such as the master net makers, who play a vital role in the industry.
Next, visit the marine farm located at the port. Here, you’ll board a boat and, without leaving the dock, discover the unique ecological farming of Zamburiñas (scallops) and oysters—the only ones of their kind in Andalusia. Observe these seafood delicacies up close, learning to identify and appreciate their characteristics.
The experience culminates in a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the best techniques for shucking oysters, distinguishing their quality and freshness. Enjoy tasting these freshly cultivated oysters, grown under sustainable and eco-friendly conditions. This is a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of seafood and savor a true maritime delicacy.
