Dec. 20 - Explore the World of Traditional Fishing: A Seaside Adventure!
Get ready for a morning filled with hands-on learning and coastal exploration as we step into the world of traditional fishing! Hosted in collaboration with Turismo Marinero, our experience will take students behind the scenes of a working fishing port and marina, diving into the life of professional fishermen and the secrets of our local maritime culture.
What to Expect:
Guided Tour of the Fishing Port: We’ll start the day with an educational journey through the fishing port, where we’ll learn about the process of artisanal fishing alongside local fishermen. Discover the daily hustle of the port, the bustling Fish Market auctions, the dry dock, the net maker’s craft, different types of boats, and the diverse fish species and their natural habitats.
Visit to the Marina: After a light breakfast break, we’ll head to the Marina to learn from experts at Marinas del Mediterráneo. They’ll share insights into the work of marina staff and the essential roles they play in keeping everything running smoothly.
Boarding the Educational Boat: Staying dockside, we’ll board our classroom-on-the-water to learn about key navigational tools, parts of the boat, and the winds and tides that most influence our coastline.
Knot-Tying Workshop: To cap off the experience, we’ll get hands-on with a Knot-Tying Workshop! Students will practice maritime knots suited to their skill level and, upon completion, will be awarded their own Junior Sailor diploma.
This is a unique opportunity for students to gain new skills, discover our local marine heritage, and have fun with friends on the coast!
